Magic Kingdom

Disneyland is a very strange place.
I think that I could write a book of social commentary all about Disneyland. Today, what stood out to me was how many of the rides (i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean, Pinnochio, The Haunted Mansion, the Tower of Terror, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, et al.)contain rather potent lessons of the dangers of pleasure and excess -- two of the main things that Disney resorts deal in.
I just wonder about things like that.

Charming portraits of everyone

I haven't done a goofy picture post in a while. I don't know what's wrong with me! I have taken hundreds of pictures in the last few months, and many of them are quite goofy. The rest of them are of my feet.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, Grunk and Keika and I went bowling while Ed, Kyle and others went to see Eagle and Talon in concert (which you can read about on either grunk or keika's blog, or both), afterwards we went to Fridays for food and drink, and left a message for our waitress to call us! Except we put Ed's name and number down instead of our own. We thought it was quite funny. What would happen if she actually called??! Of course she wouldn't, but if she did, OH MAN!
Well, she did. Ed was confused, the girl was confused, and we were all greatly amused. Except Ed. And maybe the girl. We felt bad about the girl, actually, so we determined to go back to Fridays and apologize to the waitress and possibly all feel very awkward. You can read more about this incident at Grant's blog.
Anyway, while there we were joined by Kyle and we took some funny pictures of us all looking like silly drunks, which we are not. Honest!

Grant looks like an excited little kid in this picture, which is possibly because the glass is larger than his entire head.

Oh yes, I am SO hard core sipping my white peach sangria out of a girl glass with a straw! Bring it on, all ye who want a bar fight! Don't you see the light emanating from the sides of my head? That's AWESOME light!!! (as in, it means I'm awesome)

When Kyle called to see if he could hang out with us, I said "oh hey Kyle! We were just talking about how we have such cool gay friends?" "Really?" Kyle said, "What gay friends were you talking about?" "Well, just you and Grant," I said.

Keika does not want you to know that she's only drinking Coke.
...
Thanks to our waitress for calling Ed and giving us yet another amazing adventure!!

Done but not over!

The first True Tale of Bravery and Honor, True Tales of the Ninja is finished!

(It is a shattering conclusion, so beware!)

The strip is definetly going to continue, but with shorter, non-ninja stories for a while until we undertake our next major story which will feature George Washington traveling through time. So keep tuning in, because things are definetly going to get more interesting.
I also put up a quick blog with all of the entries on one page to make it easier to read the whole thing at once, so feel free to check that out as well. I'd really like to know what you guys think of the completed storyline.
I have to say that it's very exciting to have a finished comic under our belts now. I think I have the better job out of the partnership, because I get to write whatever I think would make a neat story, and then get to see Peter draw it and make it even funnier and more exciting than I had envisioned. It's almost not even fair. There's basically no down-side!
I've learned a lot about writing from this process, too, and what makes a comic strip work. The format we have lets us experiment quite a bit, and we got to try out a lot of different story-telling styles in the weekly black and white strips, which was a challenge but a lot of fun. I'm a lot more comfortable with writing for comics as well now, too. I used to have to have everything planned out in my head before I even sat down at the keyboard, and that's less of the case now, although I still can't just bang something out all at once.
Please let me know what you've thought of the comic so far, as well as what you'd like to see in the future! There are many True Tales of Bravery and Honor to come!
