I think his look is saying, "Oh no you don't...this is MY ferret!"
That's how you hold a ferret. Geez, I worked at a zoo for a summer, you have to hold them in a position like that to give them support. There's nothing unusual about it.
It looks more like he's a hunter to me. Like he's a business man, at some kind of PETA luncheon, and he's one of the main speakers, but he's tated ferret before, and he can't help but imagining this little fellow on his plate.
