Desert landscapes

I don't have time for a full travelouge from this weekend's trip, but I'll try and get on that soon. For now, I'll suffice to say that we enjoyed our time with my family and got to see a ton of amazing things off the beaten path. Here are some pictures.

On our jeeping expedition, we ate lunch were the lawn chairs are, then scrambled up to snap this picture.

There's a huge pile of marble-shaped iron pellets off to the side of these tracks, where a flat car tipped years and years ago. These days train company only sends enough material down the pike to legally keep their claim to the tracks.

Giraffes are obviously not native to Palm Desert. These live in captivity at The Living Desert, along with a few ostriches and some other wild animals and a lot of cactus.

An oasis in Imperial Valley. A couple from my aunt and uncle's RV spa was married there this winter.

This used to be a car where more random debris, couches, old mining equipment and hundreds of tires lie scattered at the remains of a hermit's outpost which was abandoned after a fire ten years ago. It's now called "the tire farm."

Sunset.
